Event Date: September 6, 2008

Event Description:
The North America Outdoor Institute, the Anchorage Municipal Public Library, the Alaska State Troopers, the Anchorage Emergency Management Office and the Anchorage Parks and Recreation joined together to host the first National Emergency Preparedness Month fair. With no funding and few resources, we successfully brought together more than 600 people for this first effort to help prepare Alaskans for our extreme winter challenges. We had more than 50 volunteer presenters and vendors who also participated.

This event was attended by:
People that attended included community residents, families, first responders and local officials.

Additional Information/Suggestions:
We used local media outlets and submitted free public service announcements to help us get the word out about this emergency preparedness fair. While we could have handled hundreds more than actually attended, we felt for our first year effort, we were very successful. In 2009 we hope to attract many, many more participants.
